Folding at Home on Mac OS X
I am a donator of Folding@Home program. I install the Folding@Home client on every computer I used. So, now I install Folding@Home client for Mac OS X. There are three Folding@Home client softwares for Mac OS X: graphical, screensaver and console mode. I use the console mode client.
Install Folding@Home console client
- Download Mac OS X text console mode client software
- Mount the downloaded “FAH5-CLI.dmg“
- Copy “fah5” to the desktop
- Double click “fah5” to run the program
- You will be asked a series of questions to set up the configuration. The first of these will be what User name you would like to use–this is so that you can track your work on the statistics web page.
- The application will download the scientific core (may take a few minutes) and then get to work. If you would like to hide the terminal, just choose “Hide Terminal” from the Terminal menu.
- If you want, you can have Folding@home start up automatically each time you start Mac OS X. Just open the “System Preferences“, click “Accounts“, click the “Login Items” tab that appears, click the Add button (”+” sign), select the Folding@home application (”fah5″), and click “Add“.
Thought
I learned that Mac OS X will run maintenance during 3am to 5am, so it is good leave the computer on all the time. The Folding@Home will use the system idle time to run the protein calculation.
