Windows XP on Intel Mac Hack Download and Install
The WinXP on iMac video is real! The Windows XP on the Intel Mac hack (winxponmac0.1.zip) is available for download (my mirror) ! It is only a 776KB file. Here is a brief Windows XP on Mac installation instruction.
Things you need
In order to install WinXP on Mac, you need to have:
- Windows XP Professional SP2 CD
- winxponmac0.1.zip file
- Nero Burning ROM (a Windows CD burning software)
- A blank CDR
- A PC
- A Intel-based iMac
Step #1: Create custom WinXP installation disk
- Unzip the xom.zip file
- Use the included sp2.nrb nero project as a baseline.
- Add the Windows XP source files to the root of the project.
- Overlay the XOM files (in the patch folder) to the root.
- Set the boot loading image to the included boot.img.
- Burn and done.
Step #2: Install WinXP on Mac (dual boot)
- Partition the disk in two using the OSX CD: FAT and HFS+
- Install OSX on the HFS+ partition.
- Copy xom.efi (from xom.zip) into the hard disk
- Change directory (CD) to the directory where you put xom.efi and type
sudo bless --folder . --file xom.efi --setBoot - Reboot, insert the XP CD, select windows using the arrows and wait about 3 minutes
- Choose the FAT partition you previously created.
- Install. Make sure to remove the CD on subsequent boots, otherwise you’ll start the process over again.
- Done!

My two cents
This is cool! The installation process is much easier than I expected. Basically, we only need to prepare the custom installation CD and partition the Mac hard drive into two partitions (for dual boot).
Now, I have a good reason to get a Intel-based Mac (MacBook Pro?)

Apple officially released a beta version of Boot Camp which enable dual boot Windows XP and Mac OS X on Intel-based Macs. Don’t need to use the Intel Mac Hack anymore.
