Turn on iPod Diagnostic Mode
You suspect that your iPod is having hardware problem but can’t test it. In fact, every iPod has a secret hidden build-in Diagnostic Mode to test your iPod harware.
Note: Diagnostic Mode is not for general user. Use it at your own risk.
Turn on iPod Diagnostic Mode
The following is the instruction to turn on iPod Diagnostic Mode for modern iPods (photo, nano, video, and mini).
- Turn off “hold switch”
- Press and hold “Menu” and “Select” buttons simultaneously for 10 seconds to reset the iPod.
- The Apple logo will appear and you should feel the hard drive spinning up. Press and hold “Back” and “Select” in sequence.
- You will hear an audible chirp sound and the logo should appear backwards. You are now in Diagnostic Mode!
- Navigate the list of tests using “REW” and “FFW”. The scroll wheel does not function in diagnostic mode.
