Apple MacBook VS. iBook
About eight months after I bought my Apple iBook, today Apple released new Intel-based MacBook as iBook replacement. Let’s see what’s great about MacBook.

First of all, Apple adds black color to its laptop. The black MacBook looks cool but it is USD$200 more expensive than white version (although black MacBook get bigger hard drive).
Like MacBook Pro, MacBook is powered by Intel Core Duo processor, which Apple claims to be 5 times faster than iBook. Due to the Intel processor, Apple also dumps ATI graphic chipset and use Intel GMA 950 graphic processor. Beside new processors, every MacBook has build-in iSight camera.
Unlike iBook with different screen size, MacBook has only one size — 13.3″ widescreen monitor. MacBook also use the same MagSafe power adapter as MacBook Pro.
MacBook hard drive is starting from 60GB, which is 20GB more storage space than my iBook. Moreover, MacBook hard drive is faster 5400–rpm Serial ATA hard disk drive.
MacBook now supports maximum system memory up to 2GB. Apple iBook was only able to support up to 1.5GB memory.
Apple iBook does not support DVI. But, Apple added DVI output to MacBook. Great!
Beside new mini-DVI port, MacBook now support digital auto input/audio line in, which was not available on iBook. iBook has only an audio out port.
My two cents
Overall, MacBook improved a lot over the iBook. If I am looking for a Apple laptop now, I would get a white version of MacBook 2.00GHz at USD$1,299. Black version is over priced. ![]()

What would you say though if the Ibook became $500 cheaper? Which would you buy?

if I don’t have an ibook, I will still get MacBook. It has many features that are lacked in iBook.

I just bought a MacBook, but prefer the size and keyboard of the old Apple iBook. It’s much more portable, especially for use in classrooms, etc., and the keyboard is much softer.
I wish they had the option of both a 12″ and a 13.3″ for the MacBook; if so, i would’ve chosen the 12″.
oh well.

@DG: yup, palmrest of white color laptop is easy to get dirt. I always put a cloth on palmrest before I rest my palms.
